Svenska Teatern (the Swedish Theatre) in Helsinki is a Finnish national theatre performing in Swedish – Finland’s second official language. Most of our performances are surtitled into Finnish, Swedish, and occasionally also into English.
The theatre is located right in the heart of Helsinki. Three different stages offer theatre for all tastes:
The Main Stage with ca 620 seats
AMOS, seating up to 135 people depending on the piece and set design
NICKEN, a small stage with 70 seats
Svenska Teatern offers a broad repertoire of both domestic and international plays that caters to everyone - from classics to newly written and from big musicals to children’s plays.
Svenska Teatern produces on average 8–10 productions each year. In addition, the repertoire consists of special guest performances and co-productions with other theatres and groups.
Svenska Teatern is committed to audience engagement and outreach, offering a broad range of events in addition to the theatre repertoire. These include Scenmåndag, our monthly Monday discussion evenings; play introductions; discussions; workshops; activities for children; and guided tours of the theatre. Guided tours can be booked for groups of 5 to 25 persons. For more information, please e-mail info[at]svenskateatern.fi.
